Mary A. Scott was born on August 13, 18??, at Rome, Ashtabula county, Ohio. Her parents, Joseph and Polly (Faunce) Scott, were natives of New York State, and were pioneers of Ashtabula county. Her father was a skillful hunter, and brought down many a bear, deer, wolf and panther. Mary's father died at the age of fifty-two years, and her mother lived to the age of sixty-two years. Mary's parents had six children, four of whom grew to maturity.
Mary married Israel Ferris Hughes (b. March 13, 1826 in Durham, Greene County, New York; d. February 4, 1916, in Huntsburg, Ohio) on March 26, 1851.
Mary died on May 4, 1932, in Huntsburg, Ohio. She was the mother of 5 children
