Peter Maximus ("Mike") Sorrell

Peter Maximus ("Mike") Sorrell was born on October 2, 1887, in Cloud County, Kansas. He was baptised eleven days later at St. Joseph Catholic Church (the baptism was recorded in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clyde, Kansas.) His godparents may have been John and Emma La Fond. Mike grew up in Colfax County, according to the 1900 census.

After service in the US Navy, Mike settled in Dysart, Iowa, where he farmed and operated a business. At first the business was a pool hall, but when he decided it was becoming a bad influence on the community, he converted it to a bakery and dry goods store.

Mike died on April 5, 1975. As Retta had already passed away on February 17, 1955 and the couple had no children, Mike left his estate to the estate of his sister Rosana Sorrell Alexander (who had also previously passed away). Mike and Retta are buried beside one another in the Catholic cemetery at Dysart.
