My Life in Taiwan and America
Hsueh-hui ("Sharon") Lin, 701
It has been more than four months since I came to the USA. Compared with my existence back home, life here is fresher -- but more boring. Since my classes start at nine, I need to get up early and prepare my breakfast and lunch by myself. In addition to my regular classes, I spend a lot of time in the language lab. After school, I go home; occasionally I go to a friend's house for dinner. Usually I cook my own dinner, do some housework, and then my homework. About eleven o'clock, I go to bed and my unvarying day comes to an end. For me, nothing is special, interesting, or exciting anymore; I am just experiencing a different kind of life now. Although my daily life at home in Taiwan was also far from stimulating, I didn't feel so bored and lonely. At home, my mother prepared everything for me. In addition to school and homelife, I went to many different places and took part in a variety of activities with a lot of friends. Most of my time was spent at school, but I also liked to go to a bookstore to read new magazines, or to a baseball game, or to a restaurant with my friends, or just stay home with my family. Even when I was alone, I still felt comfortable and not upset, for I was at home. Here in Davis, however, books and restaurant meals cost more than back in Taiwan, so most of the time I just stay home. Recently, I have been taking part in as many different activities as possible to make my life fuller, and I look forward to another new life in the future.
