How to Scan a Photo

The Redwood lab has a new ScanJet 5p flatbed scanner. You can use it to scan photos for use in MicroSoft Word documents, Website publication, e-mail, or faxing.

  1. Make sure the scanner and terminal are turned on.
  2. Lift scanner cover and place photo face-down on glass; the top of the photo will go on the edge marked by the green arrow.
  3. Click on the "START" button at the bottom left of the screen.
  4. Pull up "start menu" and select "Programs."
  5. Pull right and select "L-View Pro."
  6. Pull right and select "L-View Pro 1.D2."
  7. Close dialog box.
  8. Pull down "File" menu (upper left) and select "Acquire."
  9. Click on "Scan."
  10. Adjust image frame by clicking on and pulling dotted-line box. If you lose the dotted-line box, you can reacquire it by clicking on the dotted-line icon.
  11. Click on "Accept."
  12. Pull down "File" menu and select "Save As."
  13. For most purposes, you will want to save your image on a floppy as a JPEG or GIF type file.
    • Choose JPEG as type of file.
    • Select A-drive for storage on 3.5" floppy disk.
    • Give the file a name. The suffix tag (jpg) will be added automatically.
    • Click on "Save."
  14. Remove floppy from drive. That's all.

L-View Pro is a good program for photo-editing.
