The skies over North Central Kentucky bounded by Taylorsville Lake and the Salt River, and the communities of Mount Eden, Lawrenceburg and Taylorsville are apparently becoming active again [see "Bluegrass Bulletin," August 1997], as evidenced by the following report:

On Thursday, August 13, 1998, INTERLINK:KENTUCKY was contacted by a MUFON member and "Bluegrass Bulletin" subscriber concerning a UFO sighted by several of her family members near the Salt River and Taylorsville Lake on Tuesday the 11th. Observed from their residence high atop a bluff, the object is reported to have been the size of a quarter held at arm's length, and as bright as the sun. Indeed, the witnesses "Ronnie and Carla" first suspected the object to be the moon rising when it was first spotted at 11:20 PM.

"Funny," Carla remarked when I interviewed her, "but I have always been wary of something like this happening ever since my husband and I moved up here. We don't have any curtains on our windows because we haven't wanted anything to block our view of the surrounding countryside, which is really incredible."

Asked to explain why she would be looking for "something" to occur, Carla explained, "Because my family has always been into things like this. In fact, a brother-in-law saw a similar object several years earlier while fishing out on Taylorsville Lake near the VanBuren boat dock. When we were fixing to move, the possibility of a UFO sighting was discussed. Actually, the very idea scared me to death. But 15 months had elapsed," said Carla, "and nothing had happened…until Tuesday."

"My husband Ronnie's a real skeptic," she continued, "but he was the first one to spot it. Lingering by our bedroom windows as he prepared to turn-in for the night, he suddenly said, 'What is that? You need to come over here and take a look at this.' Something I wasn't too keen on doing, to tell you the truth. But I did eventually and immediately observed a orange-ish sphere the size of the moon hovering behind some trees over a neighboring property."

Asked if the object displayed any other lights or colors, Carla replied, "Well, it did sort of have a reddish tint to it at times…a pulsing reddish-orange, but no other lights were visible on the thing."

She said the object also seemed to be exhibiting a slight side-to-side motion, rather than hovering perfectly still, movement she was able to detect by squinting her eyes and not looking directly into its extremely bright luminosity.

"Could that possible be a searchlight?" Ronnie asked at one point, although there weren't any beams of light emanating from the object, either below or above it. A neighbor's floodlight was also considered, but the object was in the wrong position.

Whatever it was, the object remained stationary just behind the treetops until approximately 11:30 when it "simply went POOF!" according to Carla.

"I believe that we just saw a UFO," a previously disbelieving Ronnie remarked to his wife, something she never expected to hear him say.

"He was a die-hard skeptic, believe me," she stressed.

Queried by her MUFON member relative whether there was the possibility of any missing time connected with the sighting, Carla said no. "I was pretty aware of the time during the entire event."

Asked for her thoughts on the sighting two days after the fact, Carla replied, "I just hope they don't come back. I spend a lot of my time here alone and would prefer to not go through that again. Although, I must say, I kept telling 'em to keep their distance during the sighting and they obliged…at least this time."

Carla and INTERLINK:KENTUCKY have agreed to keep in touch, and we'll keep you apprised of any new developments in this case!

ANOTHER UFO SIGHTED NEAR TAYLORSVILLE LAKE (KY)!

Earlier this week, INTERLINK:KENTUCKY received word that our two friends from the Taylorsville Lake Area, "Carla and Ronnie" had had another sighting. As I reported in last month's issue of the Bluegrass Bulletin," the two had observed an object "the size of a quarter held at arm's length, and as bright as the sun" from their home high atop a bluff near the confluence of the Salt River and Taylorsville Lake. Their first sighting occurred back on August 11th (1998).

"They're baaack," reported Carla when I spoke with her. "But this time when Ronnie summoned me to the window, I ran to get the camera instead and by the time I returned, the object had shrunk. It was still visible but it was more a pinpoint of light. Ronnie saw it when it was full-sized, however, and says it was as big as the object we witnessed before.

"It was just hovering there, according to Ronnie, partially obscured by trees like before at slightly more than treetop level when it began to shrink in size. Then, as we both watched the thing, it slowly - and I do mean slowly - began to drift away towards the lake."

"How long did you have it in your sights once it began to drift away?" I asked.

"At least five minutes," Carla replied, "maybe longer. Like I said, it wasn't in any hurry. Finally, it disappeared behind the next ridge over."

"And the length of the entire event?"

"Around ten minutes," said Carla, "it took me awhile to find the camera."

"Did you get any pictures of the object?"

"No. It was too small by the time I returned with the camera for it to do any good."

When asked the obligatory "could it have been a helicopter" question Carla replied, "No, it was silent and there weren't any blinking lights. Besides," she added, "we see planes and helicopters all the time around here…we're more or less on the approach path to Louisville International Airport and I know what they look like. This wasn't one of them…"

Indeed, as the report on Page 2 of Regional Sightings (click LINK above) would indicate, the skies are quite active in the Taylorsville Lake area these days and an INTERLINK:KENTUCKY skywatching excursion is planned to the region.

Has this second sighting had an effect on Ronnie's professed skepticism regarding all things ufological, I wondered?

"Oh yes," Carla confirmed, "his mind is wide open now!"

"And how 'bout you, have you been rethinking your decision to not hang curtains along your all-glass living room wall?"

"Oh no," Carla insisted, "although I HAVE ordered some shades for the bedroom…"

In the meantime, the best piece of advice I could give Carla was to keep her camera(s) charged up and at the ready from now on.

"Already done….already done," she assured me.

EVEN MORE OBJECTS SIGHTED NEAR TAYLORSVILLE LAKE (KY)!*New!

C. 1998 by Jerry Washington

Well folks, "Carla and Ronnie" have had yet another UFO sighting from their hacienda perched high atop a bluff near Taylorsville Lake in Spencer County. However, this time the couple was treated to a lightshow involving multiple objects, instead of just one like their previous two events.

"I was so frightened," a still freaked-out Carla told me by phone on Friday, September 25th, the day after the sighting. "There were big ones, little ones…red, green, and white ones. They seemed to be congregating in the area behind our barn…like they were 'gathering energy,' so to speak, or 'gassing up' before they went off and did their thing."

"What did doing 'their thing' entail?" I asked

"Well, floating off towards the lake mainly," said Carla. "They'd kind of bob up and down like a yo-yo, then go drifting off in the direction of Taylorsville Lake. They didn't appear to be in any kind of hurry. We watched 'em for over three-and-a-half hours and they were still around when we went to bed!"

I then asked Carla if the red and green lights could have been attached to a single object.

"They weren't attached to an airplane, if that's what you mean. I've seen plenty of airplanes…these weren't them."

"Helicopters have regulation red and green lights, as well," I replied. "Did you listen to see if these objects were generating any kind of sound?"

"Ronnie stepped out onto the deck to check and didn't hear a thing. And believe me, from up here we can hear the cows fart in the valley below!" Carla assured me.

"You mentioned that these objects seemed to be gathering steam behind your barn."

"Well, not exactly behind the barn. They were further away than that…they weren't even over our property. It just seemed that way when you were looking at them from a distance."

When asked to approximate that distance, Carla replied, "Under two miles. I don't know really…I'm not good at gauging distance. However, Ronnie plans to take one of the horses and ride out they way soon to see what he can see. He'll be able to judge a lot better than I."

"Tell Ronnie to look out for any trace evidence," I told her, "such as burnt grass or vegetation or any unusual markings on the ground."

In a previous conversation I'd also advised Carla to her to keep her camcorder at the ready just in case "they" came back. "Did you manage to get any video?" I asked her.

"Lord no," she replied. "I was too scared to have the presence of mind to do that. When Ronnie said 'they're baaack,' I just freaked! I ran to get the camera but just kind of lost it after that. It was all I could do to bring myself to look out the window."

"But they were visible for over three hours," I mused.

"I know…I know. It seems absurd, but I just didn't have it together. I was frightened, yet dazzled by what I was seeing, almost hypnotically so. It's hard to explain…you just had to be there."

Actually, I have been there before…numerous times and strangely enough I can relate to what Carla is saying. The "in the moment-ness" of such an event can be overwhelming. I've had friends - cynical ol' sons-of-bitches - suddenly drop to their knees and start speaking in tongues when confronted by the UFO reality. "Oh help me Jesus, I won't cuss or fornicate no more!" a buddy once vowed as he and I observed an amber-colored oval in the restricted skies over Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Of course he did both - cuss and fornicate - again, probably before the night was out, but it's the thought that counts.

"However, should they return," I told Carla, "it sure would be a nifty thing if you could document it this time."

"I will…I will," she promised, which I realized would have to suffice for the moment.

I did broach the subject of "earthlights" with Carla, seizing on her comment about the objects "bobbing up and down." Earthlights, Spooklights, BOLs or whatever else you want to call them, undoubtedly exist. Indeed, the "Brown Mountain Lights" in the Blue Ridge Parkway and the "Marfa Lights" down in Texas have been around for generations. The Marfa Lights, in particular, have even been photographed on numerous occasions. Of course, the science of "plate tectonics" has been advanced to explain such light phenomena. The theory goes that natural faulting in the earth's crust and the resultant movement thereof, conjures up these luminous spheres that are often mistaken for UFOs.

Yeah, yeah and pigs can fly. Nevertheless, I felt compelled to at least mention the possibility that what Carla and Ronnie had observed that night was a natural, if not yet understood, phenomenon. In the interest of fair play, if nothing else.

"Not a chance," answered Carla. "These objects…these disks, were entirely too mechanical in their movements. There was just something about them that didn't seem earthly. Not at all! You need to come up here and see for yourself. It's the most incredible thing."

I was on the alert for the objects return the next night, and Carla did phone to say she'd seem something. But the duration was brief and the cavalry wasn't called. But several INTERLINK:KENTUCKY associates are planning a trip up that way the next time that phone rings. So stay tuned…we'll let ya know what happens!

SKYWATCHER SPOTS UFOs IN TAYLORSVILLE, KENTUCKY

September 14, 1998

From UFO ROUNDUP & SKYWATCH INTERNATIONAL

On Wednesday, September 9, 1998, skywatcher Mary S. grabbed her 50X binoculars and went out in the backyard of her home in Taylorsville, Kentucky (population 774). She decided to use the "sun watch" technique in an effort to spot UFOs.

She Reported Several Sightings

9:40 a.m. - Mary spotted "a white oval shape at about 55 degrees" above the horizon. "I watched until the object vanished."

10:28 a.m. - "Small white oval objects moving, seemed to zigzag about 60 degrees."

10:32 a.m. - "Bright white streak (USAF jet?--J.T.) moving north to northeast about 80 degrees."

12:32 p.m. - "Several small white objects seemed to be floating, moving south to southeast about 65 to 70 degrees."

1:07 p.m. - "A small white vapor that made three small arches in the sky, although I could not see a shape."

1:33 p.m. - "Swirls of vapor lasted about 8 seconds. The swirls were constantly changing direction."

1:59 p.m. - "A white oval shape about 85 degrees seemed to come from the south. It disappeared after about five to seven seconds."

Mary added, "I am a devout Catholic and, as God is my witness, this is true. I know now for a fact there are UFOs. This is nothing that can be explained away."

Taylorsville is at the intersection of Kentucky Highways 44 and 55, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) southeast of Louisville.
