100 acres on the Spreading Spring waters of James River
I Beverly Randolph Esquire Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to all to whom these presents shall come greeting know ye that in consideration of the ancient composition of ten shillings sterling paid by Jacob Souder into the Treasury of this Commonwealth there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said Jacob Souder assignee of John Russell a certain tract or parcel of land, containing one hundred acres, by survey bearing date the sixth day of November, One Thousand seven hundred and eighty one, lying and being in the county of Botetourt, on the Spreading Spring Waters of James River, and bounded as followeth, to wit, Beginning at two white oaks and hickory, thence south eighty seven degrees west forty poles, thence south forty nine degrees west twenty eight poles to two white oaks and black oak, south fifty nine degrees west one hundred and eighty four poles to a spanish oak and two black oaks, thence north five degrees west fifty two poles to two white oaks and black oak, north forty five degrees east eighty two poles to two white oaks and spanish oak on a creek, thence east thirty eight poles to a black oak and locust north forty eight degrees east one hundred and seventy two poles to two white oaks, north fourteen degrees east ninety six poles to two white oaks and black oak, thence south fifty six degrees east twenty poles to white oak and spanish oak, thence south eleven degrees west one hundred and ninety two poles to the Beginning with its _______ to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances, to the said Jacob Souder and his heirs. In witness whereof the said Beverly Randolph Esquire Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand, and caused the ____ Seal of the said commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond, on the Twenty Seventh day of July in the year of our Lord, One Thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven and of the commonwealth the ______.

This Indenture made this eleventh day of April in the year of our Lord
one thousand seven hundred & ninety seven between Jacob Souder of the
County of Botetourt of the one part and George Rule of the same county
of the other part witnesseth that the said Jacob Souder for in consideration
of the sum of Two hundred and thirty pounds lawful money of the State of
Virginia to him in his hand paid the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge
Have granted bargained & sold unto the said George Rule & his heirs
a certain tract of parcel of land situated in the County of Botetourt aforesaid
and was granted by Patent unto the seal of the Commonwealth bearing date
the 27 day of July 1787 to the said Jacob Souder and contains one hundred
acres and bounded as follows to wit Beginning at two white oaks & hickory
thence S 87 W 40 poles then S 49 W 28 poles to two white oaks & black
oak S 59 W 184 poles to a spanish oak & two Black oaks then N 5 W 52
poles to two white oaks & black oak N 45 E 82 poles to two white oaks
& spanish oak on a creek thence East 38 poles to a black oak &
locust N 48 E 172 poles to two white oaks N 14 E 96 poles to two white
oaks & black oak thence S 56 E 20 poles to a white oak & spanish
oak thence S 11 W 192 poles to the beginning together with all and singular
the said lands and premises and all _____ waters privileges & improvements
& the reversions remainders rents _____ and profits thereof with the
appurtenances to have and to hold the said lands & premises unto the
said George Rule his heirs & assigns forever and the said Jacob Souder
for himself his heirs executors and administrators doth covenant &
grant to and with the said George Rule that he the said George Rule his
heirs ex & admin the said land premises shall peaciably and ______
hold _____ free from the claim or interruption of him the said Jacob Souter
and that he will for himself his heirs & warrant & defend the same
to the George Rule against the claim of every person whatever in witness
whereof the said Jacob Souder has hereunto set his hand and seal the day

This Indenture made this 22nd day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and Eight Between Absalom Robinson of the one part & Jonathan Sowders of the other, Each of the County of Lee and State of Virginia witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars to me in hand paid by the said Jonathan Sowders the Receipt & payment whereof I do hereby acknowledge for myself & my heirs do hereby Bargain sell ____ ____ & confirm unto the said Jonathan Sowders his heirs & assignees forever a certain tract or parcel of land in the county and state aforesaid situate lying & being as follows on the south side of Powell River North Side of Wallens Ridge Beginning on a bunch of Lynns and a black walnut and Running thence North Thirty five degrees West 168 poles to two small Spanish Trees and a blue ash, thence North ten degrees west 40 poles to a sugar tree and birch, thence South 60 West 102 poles to an ash, then south 17 degrees East 80 poles to a black walnut and sugar tree, thence south 5 degrees East 21 poles to a large poplar and sugar tree thence south 22 degrees east 25 poles to a birch south 17 degrees east 25 poles to a buckeye thence up the middle of the branch spilling the head of the spring 30 poles to two Linns thence due south 170 poles to a stake, thence north 31 degrees east 240 poles to the beginning containing two hundred and one acres and a half being apart of a tract of land devised by will from William Robertson to me his son Absalom Robertson the patent bearing date the 27th day of October One thousand seven hundred and ninety eight whereas said piece or parcel of land with all ways ____ waters and every of other appurtance there unto belonging or appertaining I have hereby for myself my heirs executors and administrators sold set over convey ___ ____ and confirmed in open market to the said Jonathan Sowders and his heirs and assigns forever, and I do hereby for myself my heirs executors and administrators covenant and promise to ____ with the said Jonathan Sowders his heirs executors administrators and assigns that I & my heirs executors or administrators shall and will warrant and forever defend in fee simple the said piece or parcel of land with all and every of its members and appurtenances free from all lawful claim of any person or persons whatsoever unto the said Jonathan Sowders his heirs executors administrators assigns In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

This Indenture made and entered unto this the eighth day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and twenty by and between Jonathan Sowders and his wife of the county of Lee and State of Virginia of the one part and Christain Plank of the County of Claiborne and State of Tennessee of the other part witnesseth that said Jonathan Sowders and Anne his wife for and in consideration of the sum of six hundred and fifty dollars to in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledge hath this day bargained sold and conveyed and do by these presents bargain sell ____ _____ convey & confirm unto the said Christain Plank a certain tract or parcel of land in the County of Lee & State of Virginia situate lying and being as follows on the south side of Powells River & north side of Wallens Ridge beginning on a bunch of Lynns & a Black Walnut thence No 35 degrees west 168 poles to two small sugar trees and a blue ash thence North ten degrees west 45 poles to a sugar tree and birch thence south 60 degree west 102 poles to an ash thence so 17 degrees east 80 poles to a black walnut and sugar tree thence so 5 degrees east 21 poles to a large poplar & sugar tree thence so 22 degrees east 25 poles to a birch thence so 17 degree east 25 poles to a buckeye thence up the middle of the Branch spilling the head of the spring 30 poles to two lynns thence due south 170 poles to a stake thence n 31 degrees east 240 poles to the beginning containing two hundred and one acres and one half being a part of a tract of land devised by will from William Roberson to Absalom Robinson & conveyed from Absalom Robinson to the said Jonathan Sowders & Ann his wife the patent bearing date the 27th of Oct one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight which said piece or parcel of land including the improvement where I now live I do warrant and forever defend from us our heirs executors Administrators & assigns firmly by these present unto the said Christian Plank his heirs executors administrators & assigns forever with all the appurtenances there unto belonging or appertaining with the reversion or reversions rents & ____ thereof & the said Sowders Ann his wife do warrant & forever defend the aforesaid tract of land from all person or persons claiming lawfully or pretending to claim the same or any part thereof other in law or equity unto the said Christian Plank his heirs and assigns forever in witness whereof set my hand & seal this the day & date above written.
