  San Jose Juniper

  Family: Cupressaceae

  Origin: Cultivar; species native to East Asia


Hardiness: USDA Zones 7 to 10; any California garden climate
Growth: Slow growth to 2' high by 6' wide
Form: Dense mat with thick, heavy trunk
Leaves: Deep sage green with both scale-like and awl-like leaves
Flowers and Fruit: Inconspicuous
Exposure: Full sun or light shade
Water: Moderate to low water needs
Soil: Well drained soil with some organic content
Fertilizer: Not needed
Prune: Cut back and thin to shape; do not shear
Problems: Twig borers and mites possible

San Jose Juniper is in good scale for today's smaller landscapes. Plant where it will need little or no pruning. Many landscape uses, including groundcover and foundation or border shrub.
