Fort Niagara

Fort Niagara has been a site of military activity for over three centuries.

Madison Barracks in Sackett's Harbor, New York was the site of a United States Army base from the War of 1812 through the Second World War. It is now being redeveloped as a residential community.

British Forts of the French and Indian War

French Forts in North America During the early 18th Century the French built a number of forts to defend Quebec Province against the British. They later built some forts to defend their new territories in the southern United States. This site provides a number of links to sites related to these historic and beautiful forts.

Fort Ethan Allen is located in the the scenic state of Vermont. While not a fortification it does feature some fine architecture and is being redeveloped.

Southern Region

Fort Ward in Alexandria, Virginia was one of the forts built to defend Washington, D.C. during the Civil War. It is very well preserved and has a very good website.

Fort Maurepas was founded as the first capitol of Mississippi by the French in 1699. Efforts are underway to recreate this historic fort.

Fort DeRussey This Louisiana fort played a key role in the Civil War.


Mid-Western Region

Fort Snelling, Minnesota was an active Army installation from the 1820's until the end of the Second World War. Some parts of the fort have been restored to their 1820's appearence with many living history displays.

Support the Fort is a non-profit organization attempting to reconstruct Fort St. Joseph (1691- 1781) in Michigan.

Fort Madison defended the Riverbend Region of Iowa from 1808 to 1813. It is currently being reconstructed in the downtown district of the city of Fort Madison.

Fort Larned in Kansas is a reconstruted fort from the late 1800's.
