The 1976 Season

Record: 11-3
NFC Eastern Division Champion

Synopsis:

The 1976 season began with much promise and Dallas was the favorite to return to the Super Bowl. The draft included the likes of Butch Johnson, Tom Rafferty, and Beasley Reece. Even Duane Thomas was back to try to make the team after the WFL folded -- he didn't. But Danny White did as he finally joined the Cowboy's fold to back-up Roger Staubach.

The Cowboys roared through their first five games before St. Louis ended the streak. The Cowboys simply started another streak which reached four before another loss. The Cowboys lost the finale to finish 11-3 and capture the NFC East once again. The Cowboys were poised to get back to the Super Bowl.

The first opponent for the Cowboys was the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams capitalized on the Cowboy's weakness--no break-away runner. The Rams shot down Roger Staubach and upset the Cowboys 14-12 ending the hopes of returning to the Super Bowl. They would have to wait another year.
