The 1977 Season
Record: 12-2
NFC Eastern Division Champion
NFC Champion
Super Bowl XII Champion
Synopsis:
- The disappointment of the loss to the Los Angeles Rams prompted Dallas to
trade up in the draft with Seattle to select a running back. That running back
was Tony Dorsett. In addition to Dorsett, the Cowboys also picked up wide receiver
Tony Hill thus solidifying the offense to regain the Super Bowl Championship. They
didn't have to wait long.
- For the beginning, Dallas was the team to beat. The cruised to a 12-2 record.
Back-to-back losses to division rival St. Louis and the Pittsburgh Steelers were
the only blemishes on the March of the Cowboys. The Cowboys were fabulous on both
offense and defense and went into the playoffs at the top of their game. The ended
the season with a victory against the upstart Denver Broncos, a game many thought was
a preview of Super Bowl XII. They were right.
- Dallas ripped the Chicago Bears in the first playoff game 37-7 and then
dominated the Minnesota Vikings 23-6 to get to Super
Bowl XII. This game featured the Denver Broncos led by former quarterback
Craig Morton and Denver's "Orange Crush" defense. The game was never in doubt,
none of the playoff games that year were, and the Cowboys won their second Super
Bowl by a score of 27-10.
