The 1986 Season

Record: 7-9
3rd Place in NFC Eastern Division

Synopsis:

This year's draft mirrored the drafts of the past few years -- no major impact players. The first pick was wide receiver Mike Sherrard, who spent most of the time in Dallas on the injured list.

The season started well, with a 6-2 record. That was the highlight of the season. Danny White was lost for the season in the next game and the Cowboys finished the season with only one more win. The 7-9 record ended the NFL record streak of 20 consecutive winning seasons. The offense under offensive guru Paul Hackett scored 346 points, actually down from the previous season. The defense allowed 337 points, approximately the same as last season.
