The 1988 Season

Record: 3-13
5th Place in NFC Eastern Division

Synopsis:

The 1988 turned out to be the last season of the old Cowboys. The Cowboys hit the paydirt in the draft, the first good draft in the while. It was too late to help Schramm, Landry, and Brandt, but it help set-up their successors. The draft yielded wide receiver Michael Irvin, linebacker Ken Norton, Jr., and lineman Chad Hennings.

Tom Landry's last season as the Cowboys coach tied an NFL record of 29 consecutive years as coach for the same team. It is unfortunate that his last year had so many remembrances of his first. The Cowboys managed a 2-2 start to the season, but only won 1 other game the rest of the season to finish 3-13, including 10 straight losses. It was the worst record in the NFL. The only star on the team was Herschel Walker as the offense scored a mere 265 points. The defense allowed 381 points.
