The 1993 Season

Record: 12-4
NFC Eastern Division Champions
NFC Champions
Super Bowl XXVIII Champions

Synopsis:

The 1993 Season began with Johnson playing on repeating as Super Bowl Champions. His genius in the draft continued as he draft the likes of Kevin Williams and Darrin Smith in the second round and a great pick-up of Brock Marion in the seventh. This off-set some losses due Plan B. The best news was the core of the 1992 team was intact.

The season did not begin well. Emmitt Smith was in the midst of contract dispute with Jerry Jones and did not play in the first two games of the season -- games which the Cowboys lost. He joined to the team in week three and the Cowboys preceded to win their next seven games including Green Bay and San Fransisco. They finally lost to Atlanta in week 12. Week 13 brought the traditional Thanksgiving game that was anything but normal. Smith was out due to injury and Dallas, Texas was in the middle of an ice storm. Dallas was leading late in the fourth quarter 14-13 and Miami went for a field goal. The field goal was blocked, but the ball slid down to the goalline. All Dallas had to do was let the ball alone. However, Leon Lett went sliding into the ball, but never gained control of it. Miami recovered and scored the field goal on the next play to win 16-14. It was the last loss of the season. Dallas close their season with 5 straight wins. Dallas finished the season with a 12-4 record, and the NFC East Title.

Dallas began the post-season with a visit by Green Bay. Dallas won 27-17 to set up a rematch of last year's NFC Championship Game, only this time it was at home. This game was much different than last year's. After a 7-7 tie at the end of the first quarter, Dallas scored 21 unanswered points to end San Francisco's hope of another Super Bowl. The 38-21 win placed Dallas in Super Bowl XXVIII to play the Buffalo Bills once again. This year the Buffalo Bills made a game of it. After leading 13-6 at halftime, the Bills began the second half with the ball. They drove until Leon Lett stripped the ball leading to a defensive touchdown and a tie score. Dallas now had the momemtum and it never gave it up. Buffalo failed to score in the second half as Dallas cruised to a 30-13 win and their fourth Super Bowl Championship.
