COWBOYS IN THIRD SUPER BOWL

Super Bowl X matched the Dallas Cowboys against the defending Super Bowl Champions Pittsburgh Steelers. Dallas became the first wildcard team to reach the Super Bowl and this was their third Super Bowl of the decade.

The contest was close one. The Cowboys scored first after the Pittsburgh punter fumbled the ball on fourth down. Pittsburgh quickly responded to tie the score. Dallas broke the tie just before half-time with a field goal to take a 10-7 lead.

After neither team scored in the third quarter, Pittsburgh scored four straight times in the fourth quarter. It started when Pittsburgh blocked a punt through the endzone for a safety. They then scored two field goals to take the lead before Terry Bradshaw passes to Lynn Swann for a 64 yard touchdown. Dallas scored with less than two minutes to go to bring the score to 21-17. Dallas got the ball back with 1:22 left after stopping Pittsburgh on 4th and 9. Staubach was then forced to attempt a repeat of the Hail Mary Pass. This time the ball was intercepted and Pittsburgh captured their second straight Super Bowl.
