COWBOYS LOSE REMATCH IN RECORD FIFTH SUPER BOWL

Super Bowl XIII was a rematch of Super Bowl X: the Dallas Cowboys versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. The difference was that Dallas was the defending Super Bowl Champions in this one. This game was much anticipated as everyone one expected Dallas to play Pittsburgh the year before in New Orleans. Most were not disappointed and Super Bowl XIII is still heralded as one of the best.

The game remained close in the first half. Pittsburgh and Dallas traded touchdowns in the first quarter. Dallas took the lead early in the second quarter on a defensive touchdown but was quickly answered with a long TD pass from Terry Bradshaw to John Stallworth. Pittsburgh scored just before half-time to take a 21-14 lead.

The game remained close, but Pittsburgh still led in the fourth quarter 21-17. Pittsburgh opened up the with two touchdowns to lead 35-17. The defending Super Bowl champions did not quit. They stormed back and the game was not secure for Pittsburgh until they recovered an onside kick with 22 seconds left. The final Pittsburgh 35, Dallas 31. It would be the last Super Bowl for Dallas for 14 years.
