Hooper, Sue and Sean Skardon recently returned from a happy trip to New Orleans and Savannah. Our first stop along our way to the Crescent City was Warm Springs, Georgia, where we toured Roosevelt's "Little White House." It was very interesting to see the historical items from FDR, and inspiring to learn more about his struggle to overcome his disability. Next we passed through Biloxi, Gulfport and Pass Christian, Mississippi, stopping to see Episcopal Churches where PawPaw once held services. In New Orleans, we each found something of interest. Sean researched the family at the library, and Hooper and Sue learned more about World War Two by visiting the new D Day Museum. We ate delightful dinners at the Court of the Two Sisters, Commander's Palace and on a dinner/cruise on the "Creole Queen." |

We stopped by and visited briefly with Joe Hartley, who lives in Aunt Daisy's home on Magazine Street. He was happy to see us again. Leaving New Orleans, we traveled across Lake Pontchartrain to other small towns where PawPaw once held services. We also went to Mandeville, Louisiana and found Nanny's old home (see the Family History section) Closer to home, we stopped for two nights in Savannah and visited with Susan. She gave Sean the Susan White tour of the city, and that night we had boiled crab legs and shrimp for dinner. Yum. |
