KCRFC (3 seed) 36 Boulder RFC (1 seed) 30
Gateway Park, Ft. Worth, TX
The 10:30a kick-off matched the Heart of America champion KCRFC against the Eastern Rocky Union champion Boulder RFC. Even with many changes in the line up due to fatigue City played an excellent game. It started off as a game of kicks as inside center Mark Dunning took advantage of a penalty and converted. Boulder came right back and took advantage of a City penalty which was answered again by Dunning with a penalty kick. Boulder then scored a try and converted. But the City team turned it up another notch with a try by flanker David Carey (Dunning conversion) and a try by wing Terry Nelson. Half time 18-10 City.
Playing a little lax in the second half City allowed Boulder to score early but missed the conversion. Flanker Charlie Hirner answered with good support play and scored with a missed conversion. Another penalty by City allowed Boulder to make a Penalty kick but Dunning answered with his own minutes later. As both teams were called for a lot of penalties in the game the referee rewarded City with a penalty try after repeated Boulder attempts to kill the ball close to there goal line. Dunning easily converted. Boulder was done as they came down and scored a try with a conversion of there own leaving City with an 8-point lead. With just a few minutes remaining Dunning capitalized on another Boulder penalty and with seconds remaining Boulder scored a try to close the gap.
