KCRFC  57            Johnson County Sundogs 12

Gillham Park, KC, MO

On a rainy, wet, muddy afternoon KCRFC made mistakes right off the bat but then came into their own.  Winger Chip Becker looked like a forward when darting in for the first try at 5 minutes and fly half Tim Davies began a good kicking day by converting from near the touch line.  On the ensuing kick-off flanker Mike Haase broke tackles and ran 40 meters before dishing off to Davies for the second score and conversion.  County then answered with good penetration into the City half of the field but missed the conversion at 8:40.  After some stagnant play Davies touched down for his second try and third conversion by dummying cutting through gap at 15:15.  Five minutes later fullback Jamie Musick came streaking in on a crash near the try line for his first score but the conversion missed.

As the scoring continued flanker Dave Carey scored on a play that proves the ball is faster than the man by taking a quick hands ball over the line at 25:30 followed by Davies made conversion.  Musick scored his second try of the game at 29 minutes and Davies again followed by making his conversion.  Four minutes later Davies (hat trick) scored but failed to convert.  The half ended on a brawl type situation that put Davies in the sin bin for the first ten minutes of the second half.  KCRFC 45  County 5.

The second half found City down by one man and the forwards keep it in loose play with Mike Haase dishing it off to Flanker Troyce DeBerg for the first try of the second half.  With Davies in the bin second row Gareth Phillips missed the conversion. Minutes later flanker Dave Carey touched over for his second and a well rested Davies converted.  It didn’t take long for County to put up a scrum half high up and under that landed in the middle of the City defenders, took a high bounce and County ran it in for their second try and then made the conversion.  That was all the scoring in the game that got rather sloppy in the second half with dropped balls, knock-ons, but relatively good defense.  KCRFC 57 County 12.
