KCRFC at Chicago Griffens

      10th April 1999

After a win the week before Kansas City traveled to the windy city for the first time in many a year not knowing what to expect from a Chicago Griffens side that just last year had made it to the sweet 16 in first division rugby. Traveling again with an injury ridden squad the boys took to the field on what was to be a day of highs and lows.

Chicago's rather large pack took control of the game early on with some good rucking and scored an early try. The boys held in with attacking runs from the backs that told the home team that it was not going to be a walk in the park. Again the home team scored another try but could not convert making the score 0-10. The back line of City started to produce some outstanding runs ending in a try by Mark Dunning. This put more pressure on the Griffens and a penalty kick by Tim Davies put the score 10-10 at the half.

The second half was a well structure one for the Griffens knowing that their back line could not compete with the visitors. They kept the ball with their forwards and the domination began. Scoring a number of tries the home team proved that they were still one of the top 16 teams in the nation. Final score 10-42.

      Des Moines vs Athletics

The Athletic team with a poor showing of players gave a hearty performance but the power and size of their opponents saw them lose 0-62
