Guy, after receiving three suggestion "non-adopt" responses from your organization concerning the subject suggestion, I contacted the evaluator and his manager to request documentation in support of their position that the suggestion had already been implemented. When I spoke with the evaluator and his manager on 8/10, we reached an understanding that the idea had NOT been previously implemented, and that my communications and correspondence with the evaluator directly caused him to take action and implement my idea (reference: Publishing Update #201 dated 6/8/93).

I have an extremely well-documented audit trail supporting the evaluator's implementation of this suggestion. If you have any difficulty attempting to determine what has actually taken place, please call me. I will send you whatever documentation you may require.

The file has not been reopened. I am trying to determine what has actually taken place. I hope to have things resolved by the end of the week.

Reference: My PROFS note to you dated 6/7/93

Bill, thank you for taking my input into consideration and updating Publishing Update #201 to include a "sample" BOIS abstract which identifies a publication's softcopy "access string(s)". This "sample" significantly clarifies the intent of and method for Controlling Parties to implement the procedures set forth in this Publishing Update.

Subject: Response to Suggestion Number "923090023"

Guy, as is further supported by REVISED Publishing Update #201 and my 6/7/93, PROFS note (both below) to the suggestion evaluator, Mr. Bill Robinson, Publishing Services & Distribution (PS&D), Boulder, my suggestion DIRECTLY caused Bill to take action and implement my suggestion.

If you have any questions, or need copies of the PS&D developed savings algorithm I used to compute the $4+ million annual savings, please let me know.

Thank you for your support.

PUBLISHING UPDATE NUMBER 201A, 05/26/93

IBM INTERNAL USE ONLY

REVISED 06/08/93

ABSTRACTS AND ALTERNATE ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS

Mechanicsburg is the prime distribution point for IBM publications. However, there are many other sources for information and documentation relating to publications. In order to provide the user community with up-to-date publication information and ordering details, we must work with the development community to obtain any new or changed data about the documentation or ordering detail. This includes information about alternatives to hardcopy ordering. Examples of the alternatives include tools-based access (e.g. MKTTOOLS, ENTERPRISE LIBRARY, etc.) where a user must enter an "access string" in order to obtain data.
