Iguazu    Falls

Iguazu Falls, inarguably the most majestic and spectacular natural sight in South America and probably one of the wonders on earth, is located at the border between Argentina and Brazil.

The falls belong to the Argentinean. So from the Argentina side, one can approach the falls at close distant, literally feel and be engulfed in the sprays and mist. Simply follow the trail into the subtropical jungle to experience the falls. You may also hike down to the river side for a free ferry serivce to the San Martin Island, which offers a marvellous view at intimacy range.

Brazil offers the best panoramic view from across the river. Time your visit to the park on a sunny morning and you will be treated with a splendid view of rainbow over the falls. The arch of rainbow will follow you throughout the 550m of trail running parallel to the falls. At the end of the walk, you'll come face to face with the Floriano Falls, right next to the survenior shop. It is so close that you can almost streatch out your hand and feel the impact of the powerful gush of water tumbling down from above. Don on your rain coat and head towards the arch of rainbow at the far reach of the catwalk. The sprays of the fall is as good as it is raining. The rainbow gets bigger and more vivid as you get closer to the end of the catwalk. And when you finally reach the end, standing at the edge of the catwalk looking down at the drop of the fall to the river, an almost full-circled blazing rainbow is right below your feet! Hold you breath, squint your eyes and turn your head to the left, in the direction of the breezy sprays and thundering roar, for another overwhelming view of Devil's Throat, a vortex where the river drops 70m!

At the survenior shop, there is an elevator to hoist you up to a viewing tower for an bird's eye view of the falls and the jungles beyong the river. It seems rediculous that they charge a fee for the ride considering that one can always climb that few flights of stairs with ease.

There is a reasonably priced restaurant in the middle of the trail where you can have your lunch and enjoy the view of the falls. And for those with the extra budget, there's a 7 minutes helicopter ride for about US$50.

So visitors will inevitably cross borders to have a full sensual experience of the falls from both sides. Border crossing is bleeze, especially if you are travelling on the public buses. The sub-tropical climate gives a welcoming relieve from the cold winter in Buenos Aires. The humility also alleviate the dry skin and cracking lips from weeks of travelling in the Andes.
