Luderitz & Ghost Town

Luderitz harbour

Luderitz is a beautiful small town with a picturesque habour. This small isolated German-like town is situated out of nowhere at the windswept coast of the Namib Desert. The wind coming in from the south Atlantic Ocean is not only strong but icy cold too! The terrain that greeted me as I approached the town was so harsh that any sane human would never think of settling down.

Our accommodation in Luderitz was memorable:
The Nest Hotel by the sea was posh and the memorably most expensive accommodation throughout our entire trip. It was indeed a very comforting 'nest' for us after a long and agonizing day of getting lost, close shave of fatal accident and punctured tires.
The Luderitz Guesthouse that we shifted to the next day was memorably homely and affordable. Ms Druker was like a grandmother to us who hospitably served us breakfast.

The infamous Kolmanskop Ghost Town is just a short drive away. The deserted diamond-mining town is almost buried by the sanddunes. It would be fantastic during early morning or late evening with the low angled sunlight shinning into the sand covered interior of the buildings. But the atmosphere was too eerie for us and we decided to leave before it got too late.
