Ndebelle Village

Painting an ostrich egg

Though we had to take the flight at the Johannesburg International Airport we avoided the notorious city totally. We stayed at the adjacent city Pretoria and took the opportunity to visit the nearby Ndeblle village. We booked the trip through our guesthouse. Even though the cost of the tour to the famous and well publicized Sun City was much cheaper, it was just not our cup of tea.

Women of the Ndebelle tribe are considered to be the artists of South Africa. They paint everything from ostrich eggs to a BMW salon car! They are invited to go overseas to showcase their unique art of painting. All paintings were done free-hand without any aid or scathes.
