A PHAIR Of The Heart

Liz's New Album Slated For Summer

Marc Hawthorne

Liz Phair's highly anticipated follow-up to 1994's gold-selling Whip-smart carries the working title whitechocolatespaceegg, and will be shipped to stores by Matador/Capitol June 9. Phair began recording the ablum early last year, with the label slating it for September 1997 release, but her disappointment with the way much of it sounded led her back into the studio (with Brad Wood in Chicago and Scott Litt in Los Angeles) to re-record some of the old songs and write new material. "Obviously, with all the time that elapsed, we were most concerned with the record being good and her being happy with it," says Matador publicist Nils Bernstein. "What people heard is that she turned in something and Matador or Capitol told her to re-record it, which isn't the case." Phair plans to tour extensively in support of the new record, including a handful of dates on this summer's Lilith Fair.
