Our policy is not arbitrarily decided upon, nor does it change at our whim. Policy must be presented to the Alternative Teacher Certification Advisory Board for approval prior to implementation. The current attendance policy has been approved by the aforementioned board.
A final reason for the implementation of such a strenuous and rigorously enforced attendance policy is the direct correlation between class attendance and performance on the Secondary Professional Development ExCET (one of the two teacher exams you must pass to gain certification). Evidence from past cycles shows that those whose attendance and participation were poor scored poorly on the ExCET or failed entirely. It is in your best interest to attend class in order to be fully prepared for your ExCETs and your classroom duties.
And now, without further ado...the ATCP Attendance Policy:

The ATCP will allow only two (2) absences for the entire cycle.
A third absence may result in expulsion from the ATCP program.
All absences require that a written statement regarding the nature of the absence be submitted to the ATCP Coordinator, Christa Molloy no later than the next class meeting after the absence.
Any requests for acceptions or appeals to ATCP policy must be submitted in writing to the ATCP Coordinator, Christa Molloy.
It is the responsibility of the intern to obtain and complete all missed work due to absences or tardies. The intern should contact ATCP instructor Sharon Clark to receive assignments. Please do not call the ATCP office to obtain missed coursework.
All absences will be reported to the intern's principal and the district's human resources/teacher certification office.

An intern is considered tardy after the first 15 minutes of class time.
Three tardies are equivalent to one absence.
It is the responsibility of the intern to obtain and complete any information, warm-up work or coursework missed due to their tardy arrival.
Tardy interns are expected to enter class quietly without disturbing fellow classmates or disrupting instruction.
