Don't Be Late!!

As a member of the Prairie View A&M University Alternative Teacher Certification Program, you are expected to comply with all program rules and requirements. A major requirement of the program is mandatory class attendance. When you enter a classroom to teach, you enter with the support and recommendation of Prairie View A&M University. While you are our intern and benefit from that recommendation, please keep in mind that our first and utmost priority is to the children that you teach. We must be conscious of quality control in the classroom and do all that we can to ensure our interns receive the necessary training. Thus, the birth of the attendance policy.

Our policy is not arbitrarily decided upon, nor does it change at our whim. Policy must be presented to the Alternative Teacher Certification Advisory Board for approval prior to implementation. The current attendance policy has been approved by the aforementioned board.

A final reason for the implementation of such a strenuous and rigorously enforced attendance policy is the direct correlation between class attendance and performance on the Secondary Professional Development ExCET (one of the two teacher exams you must pass to gain certification). Evidence from past cycles shows that those whose attendance and participation were poor scored poorly on the ExCET or failed entirely. It is in your best interest to attend class in order to be fully prepared for your ExCETs and your classroom duties.

And now, without further ado...the ATCP Attendance Policy:

Any questions regarding the ATCP Attendance Policy should be directed to Program Coordinator Christa Molloy at (409)857-2312.
