Après ses deux années de cours en Art Commercial au Collège St Clair de Windsor en 1992, Denis a eu l'opportunité d'aller travailler à Toronto pendant 6 mois. Son professeur lui avait trouvé une compagnie où il a pu prendre un peu d'expérience dans son métier. Quand il est revenu de Toronto, il a été chanceux de trouver du travail dans son métier sans avoir besoin de voyager ailleurs. 

After his two years in Commercial Arts in St Clair College in Windsor, Denis worked in Toronto for 6 months. He got some experience there, thanks to his teacher who found him that job. When he came back from Toronto, he found a good job in his trade locally and he still works here.

1995-96 Original, 7e siècle.

C'est un dessin à partir d'une gravure du VIIe siècle qui est approx. 13" x 10" (32cm x 25cm) qu'il a trouvée dans un livre d'Histoire de l'Art, Gardner's Art through the Ages, Seventh edition, page 278. Cette gravure fait partir du Book of Lindisfarne, qui est à la bibliothèque d'Angleterre à Londres.

This piece is 23" x 35". China Ink of different colours. Very detailed. There are some details that are different from the original. Denis worked on this drawing for months, (he said about the equivalent of 8 months over a three years period), in his spare time.

This is a drawing done from a seventh century picture, a lot smaller originally than what Denis made. He found that in an Art History book, Gardner's Art through the Ages, Seventh edition, page 278. This book illumination is at the British Library in London.

1984-85
Ce dessin de 28" x 22" (71cm x 56cm) est très spécial pour moi. Denis a mis plusieurs mois d'effort dans cette pièce. Il était un petit garçon docile et solitaire, qui parlait peu. Il aimait se réfugier dans sa chambre pour dessiner. Dans cette période, il avait beaucoup de difficultés à l'école aussi et je pense que ce dessin peut en dire beaucoup sur ses sentiments d'alors. Il a commencé par le bas à gauche et il dessinait ses petits bonhommes un sur l'autre. (Dernièrement, il a couvert en vert le langage grossier qu'il avait dessiné à ce moment-là). This drawing, bristol board size, is very special to me. Denis worked many months to do this. He was a little boy docile and alone who did not talk much. He liked to take refuge in his bedroom and draw. Around that time, his days in school were very difficult and I am sure this drawing gives a good idea of his moods. He started in the left lower corner and made his way up by adding little figure on top of each other. (Lately, he covered in green paint some of the language of frustration he was using in his head mostly). You click on the picture to see all the details.
