The CAT uses his connections with the various forces of Evil which he rules in place of any instruments you or I can see. But when writing the lyrics and demented melodies the band is made to sing he prefers newsprint and Bic pens. The only exception was for the song "Killing Miss America" where he used one of those glitter pens and wrote it out on Rick's pillow. He would never use a sharpie.
