Okay, this is the first ever recorded version of nat and was the result of a particularly odd mix of caffeine, sugar and pizza. It was actually recorded within about three hours of when Rick initially wrote the song and so it's not exactly a top quality version of the song. To boot it was a one shot recording at two in the morning with Rick singing and playing guitar and the Judester on bass. Judah essentially made the bass line up as the song progressed and Rick was still working on the lyrics. Not that this stopped the duo from recording the song, it just added flavor to the mix of not quite guitar and no rhythm that still saturates the song to this very day. After about a half a rehearsal of the song the band turned up the volume and recorded the version we have here for your downloading pleasure.
The song has evolved quite a bit from what it was back then with the occasional addition of a lead guitar and a mutated bass line only glancingly similar to the one here. But this version still holds a slight amount of reverence to those members of the band that haven't blocked that weekend from there memory with therapy. I know the very sound of static from anything instantly transports me back to that recording.
The guitar in this song is a particularly expert showcase of Rick's talent on the instrument being that it's completely indecipherable as anything but a muted roar in the vaguelly right key. I think that he may have been playing through the "Danelectro Daddy-O" overdrive pedal but don't hold me to that.
An interesting problem was hit upon when the band went to transform this song from analog to wav format in that for some reason the computer they were using didn't fully appreciate the output set forth by the 4 track recorder the song had been first set down upon. This was solved by playing the song through a crate GX-15R practice amp and micing it. The result is that a staticy song got even more so. But whatever, it's still a kick ass song even if it is unintelligble.
Enjoy

Nat ( Big Lizard Remix )

This most recent attempt ( there are like fifty now ) has one distinctive feature. Judah, bless his little heart, screwed up the bass. But the way he screwed it up sounded better, and the whole thing was redone. Probably not the definative version but who knows.
