he following is the obituary clipping in
the scrapbook of Wilson Durham, son of Frederick D. Durham:
"Frederick Durfee Durham, 65, a life long resident of Hebron,
died suddenly Tuesday morning, February 2, of a heart attack
while helping his son with the chores. Mr. Durham was born
October 11, 1871. He was the second son of Joseph and Emma Hills
Durham. He received his education in the schools of Hebron, and
December 27, 1893, was united in marriage to Margaret E. Spoor.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John W. Charlton of
Gloversville; one son, Wilson F. Durham of Hebron, and one
granddaughter, Margaret Eloise Charlton of Gloversville. Mr.
Durham was a Christian man of sterling character, a devoted
father and grandfather; a faithful, kind, sympathetic neighbor
and friend, ever present and helpful in times of need and always
interested in the activities of the community in which he lived;
a man whom to know was to honor. In his youth he united with the
Hebron Presbyterian church and was deeply interested in its
success and at the time of his death was its ruling elder and
clerk, which offices he held for many years. Mr. Durham was a
charter member and the first master of the Hebron grange which
was organized in 1911. He was also president of the Hebron
Cemetery Association. He was assessor for several years and had
held various offices of the town and schools. In the passing of
Mr. Durham, Hebron loses one of its most valued citizens who will
be greatly missed and whose place in the community will long be
vacant. While Mr. Durham has lived on three different farms, he
was born and began his married life on the farm where he died.
Following a prayer service at the house the funeral, which was
largely attended, was held in the Hebron Presbyterian Church,
February 5 at 2 p.m., the Rev. Arthur Spaulding of Salem
officiating. Rev. Mr. Spaulding gave high tribute to the home
life of Mr. and Mrs. Durham. He spoke of Mr. Durham's
faithfulness in church activities as well as civic life and
quoted, "He died working". The bearers were Messrs.
Robert N. Wilson, Harold McKinney of Salem, Jay Darrow, Roscoe
Wilson, Henry Rogers, and John Garrity of Hebron. Among the many
relatives present were Mr. and Mrs. John W. Charlton of
Gloversville. The profusion of flowers was further evidence of
the high esteem in which Mr. Durham was held by all who knew him.
The interment was in the family plot in the Hebron Cemetery.
Greatest sympathy is felt for the family." [STACYN.GED]
