The Spider Monkey

The spider monkey can be found in tropical forests from southern Mexico to Brazil. They live 20 or more years in the zoo. The spider monkey has long legs and a grasping tail. The hair on the spider monkey is couarse and stringy. When they have babies they are totally dependent on their parents for 6 months. When the baby rides on the mom's back, they wrap their tail around Mom's tail to hold on. They eat vegetation, insect larvae, and tree snails. The live in social groups and they spend most of their time leaping from tree to tree looking for food.
