Nightclub Burger
I was hungry
In the nightclub
So I bought
A burger.
In retrospect,
A mistake.
A curiously tasteless mistake.
If it weren't for the ketchup
An exercise in texture alone.
Even the vegetables,
Crisp lettuce,
Soft tomato,
Leeched of flavour
By stiff meat
And plastic cheese.

Halfway through it
I reconsidered
And yet still
Persevered.
Still I tried
To reach an end.
But determination failed me
So I cast the meat away
And ate the bread alone.
Polystyrene tray
With fragment
Of burger
On napkin.
My stomach,
Somewhat sick.
