 In 1710 Thomas Manning a sugarcane
planter from Westmoreland died leaving in his will a
princely sum towards the establishment of a school for
free slaves.
The school was completed in
1738, twenty-eight years after the death of Manning. Over
the years the school has made significant strides in both
sports and education producing a number of excellent
atlethes and scholars.
