"Being a novice writer in the book business is a lot like being in the land of Oz: There are lots of people out there telling you there's a Yellow Brick Road, but finding it, let alone staying on it, is a hell of a trick." - Michael Reisig

The Lecture

The Myths, the Truths, and the Lies About Publishing and Marketing Books

As with his book, The Fledgling Author's Handbook, Michael Reisig's lecture covers four vital segments of the new author's world. It is of 90-minutes duration presented in two 45-minute segments.

  1. Getting the attention of literary agents and publishers-Michael Reisig will explain how to get through the door with literary agents and busy publishers. What makes you appear a seasoned professional and what identifies you as an amateur, accepted protocol, format and content of query letters, synopses, author bios and more.
  2. The many advantages of self-publishing--Why it is more viable, profitable, and controllable. Michael provides a step-by-step approach offering the methods and secrets to successful self-publishing, and identifying the pitfalls of being published by conventional companies or subsidy publishers. The lecture also details vital information on the latest technologies in printing books-Print on Demand (POD) and Print Quantity Needed (PQN) publishing, which are revolutionizing the industry and are particularly viable for the new author.
  3. Marketing and Promotion--A down-to-earth, first-hand accounting of the tricks of the trade for the novice publisher/author--the latest innovations, tried and true avenues, and little-known inroads to accomplishment, notoriety, and prosperity in the book business. In this lecture you will learn not only how to survive, but how to thrive at a business in which the great majority of participants fail.
  4. Resources--No one succeeds at this enterprise without connections--knowing the right person to contact. Michael provides the names, addresses and phone numbers of all the organizations the new author/publisher needs to successfully launch and maintain his or her career. For the new author, this segment alone, is worth its weight in gold.

***There will be a question and answer workshop immediately following the lecture, providing a more detailed examination of the lecture's segments to interested participants.

"Remember this term, 'Craft your own celebrity.' It is one of the great truisms in the writing/marketing business. You must convince people of your fame long before it has found you. You have to create a self-fulfilling prophecy about yourself and your writing, and, in the process, you program your mind for success." - Michael Reisig
