Pervolakia - Pervolakia Gorge - Moni Kapsa

Kato Pervolakia is a small village at the upper end of the impressive Pervolakia gorge
that reaches the Lybian Sea next to the Monastery Moni Kapsa.

the Kapsa Monastery is open for visitors.

The gorge is a beautifull ~2hours walk. Some years ago, the locals marked a path and added some little helps in the most difficult parts, but it's still adventurous.

The gorge of Pervolakia is of simmilar dimensions as the famous Zakros gorge
but more narrow, and without the tourists
- you'll be alone with nature (like the echoed sounds of the "perdikes" ).
It is tremendously beautifull during oleander blossom (May/June/July).
At the one end there's the sea - and the Kapsa Monastry.

On the other end of the gorge there is Kato Pervolakia,
a remote little quiet village of some 30 or 40 people.

In 2007 Manolis and Antonia opened the new Kafeneion Aposperida in Kato Pervolakia
that also serves food and offers 2 rooms.
Theres no big menu - it's a kafeneion, not a taverna - but they cook well, the rooms are comfortable and clean.
It's a recommendation for visitors of the furthermost southeast of Crete who prefer the remote and quiet places.

Don't hesitate to give Manolis and Antonia a phonecall to ask for rooms or order food in advance:
