Miss Swan's Swans Crossing Home Page || Episode #65
Second half of episode #65 transcription
Mila and Nancy in Mila's
room. Nancy is demonstrating a cheer for Mila, who is lying on
her bed.
Nancy: (dancing with pom poms) Digga digga raw
potata, half past aligata, ram, ram, bullawigga, chickawada... (raises
pom poms over her head) Swans, Swans, ra, ra, ra... (jumps)
Mila: That was very nice.
Nancy:
Mila, cheerleaders don't say, "Yes team, that was very
nice." They say, "Wound, maim, kill!"
Mila: Oh. Wound, maim, kill.
Nancy: You'll never make the squad looking so depressed.
Mila: I can't help it. How can I cheer when it's all I
can do to get through this party tonight? And it's my last with
Garrett.
Nancy: You can't get through it if you don't get to it. (walks
away)
Mila: I guess. (gets up from bed)
Sydney is sitting at the vanity in her bedroom
brushing her hair. Mayor Rutledge walks in room.
Mayor: Sydney, you'll be late to your own party.
Sydney: (laughs) Right. Okay. (pulls her
hair behind her head) Now, down or back?
Mayor: What?
Sydney: My hair! I've got to make a splash tonight.
Mayor: Does it matter? (pulls Sydney's hair back)
You look beautiful either way.
Sydney: (laughs) I think you've been in
politics too long.
Mayor: Maybe. (pauses) Look, I'll be at your
party later, okay? Have fun.
Sydney: I'll try! (continues to play with her hair)
Mayor: When you're young is definitely the time to have
it.
The Mayor frowns in the mirror while Sydney grins.
Garrett is standing on the Booth porch. Glory
enters.
Glory: Boy. You and dad were really going at it. What
did he say?
Garrett: (sighs) Why do parents pretend to be
reasonable when they know that they're not gonna listen to a word
you say?
Glory: Garrett, what did he say?
Garrett: He said there's no point in me starting school
Monday if I'm shipping off to France in a week and a half.
Glory: Oh. I'm sorry.
Garrett: Did
you tell Mila I was gonna meet her at the party?
Glory: Uh-huh. And I told J.T. I'd meet him there a
little later, too.
Garrett: Why?
Glory: Well, I thought you might want some company after
a fight like that.
Garrett: (turns around and smiles at her)
Thanks.
Glory: You know, I'm really gonna miss you if you go
away.
Garrett: I'll try to miss you, too.
Glory: (swats at him angrily) Garrett!
Garrett: Just joking! (reaches over to hug Glory)
You are the best sister a guy could have.
The Swan Club pool. Saja and Sandy are at the food
table.
Sandy: I finished my song.
Saja: (picking up burgers and putting them on his
plate) Ah, yes. The song that begins with the Vulcan
mindmeld. (pauses) You want one? (picks up another
burger)
Sandy: Actually, I've given up meat. You inspired me.
Saja: Oh! (pauses and glances at Callie)
Thanks. No one's said that to me in a long time. (looks back
at Callie)
Owen almost falls into the pool while using his
video camcorder but Neil snags his shirt and pulls him away in
time. Jimmy and Callie are watching him.
Jimmy:
Talk about going overboard. Look what he's filming.
Callie: (laughs) Yeah, he's dedicated.
Jimmy: What could possibly interest Barek in those
tapes?
Callie: I don't know. But don't get wet because as soon
as Owen leaves, we're right after him.
Jimmy nods.
Mila and J.T. are sitting on the ground by the pool.
Mila: That was beautiful. You know it by heart?
J.T.: I know all the Shakespeare sonnets by heart.
Mila: Really?
J.T.: Well, just the published ones. He wrote most of
them to a mysterious, dark-haired woman.
Sydney walks over to Jimmy and Callie.
Sydney: Um, Jimmy? Could you excuse Callie and I for a
second?
Jimmy shrugs and walks away.
Sydney: Thank you. (pauses) Okay, Callie,
please tell me that birth certificate came.
Callie: I'm sorry, Sydney. I just talked to J.T. and
Neil, and....
Sydney: (sighs and glances over at Garrett and Glory
who just entered the club) I have everything but time. (looks
back at Garrett and Glory)
Garrett and Glory are standing at the door, staring
at Mila and J.T.
Mila: Who do you think the dark lady in the sonnets was?
J.T.: I don't know.
Garrett and Glory approach Mila and J.T.
Garrett: Mila.
Mila: Garrett! (she and J.T. stand up and walk over
to Garrett and Glory) I'm so glad you finally got here.
Garrett: Yeah, I can see you missed me.
Mila: I did! I was so miserable until J.T. and I started
talking.
Garrett:
(glares at J.T.) Great.
Mila: We were discussing poetry.
J.T.: Yes. Mila really knows her iambic pentameter.
Mila: Well, I've had a great teacher. (smiles at
Garrett)
Glory: The only thing my brother could teach is the
difference between a worm and a snake!
J.T.: Glory!
Glory: I'm hungry.
J.T.: Why don't we get something-
Glory: Yes! (grabs J.T.'s shirt and drags him away)
Mila: Do you want to go swimming? I can do three
different strokes now after our lessons.
Garrett: Yeah. But can we stay afloat when we're apart?
Mila: I hope we don't have to. (takes Garrett's
hands and smiles at him) Besides, you can't leave me. You're
my agent.
Garrett: Speaking of that, where's Owen? Owen!
Garrett pulls Mila toward Owen, who is filming
something in the cabanas with his video camera.
Owen: Yeah? ...This is gonna be great for the credits!
Garrett: Listen, you're gonna have that video shot and
edited in the next couple of days, right?
Owen: Barring any technical difficulties.
Garrett: Good. Because that video's gonna make Mila a
star!
Owen: Then I'll go right to it! (leaves the club)
Jimmy: There he goes! (grabs Callie's hand) Come
on!
Callie: Shouldn't we take Saja with us?
Jimmy: He's got his hands full. Come on! (Jimmy and
Callie quickly leave the club)
Sydney starts speaking to everyone in the club on a
microphone.
Sydney: Attention! Attention, everybody. I want to
officially welcome you all to my goodbye to summer party.
J.T.: More like a good riddance to Garrett party! (gives
Neil a high-five)
Sydney: And I especially want
everyone to have a good time because- (microphone squeaks.
Sydney blows on it) Because who knows what's gonna happen
tomorrow.
Shot of Garrett reaching for Mila's hand, Saja and Sandy
smiling at each other, and J.T. putting his arm around Glory, who
both have troubled looks on their faces.
-Cut to commercial break-
The Tool and Die. Barek is
standing behind a small TV set, and Owen is leaning against a
table in front of it, eating ice cream.
Barek: (fiddles with the back of the TV set, then
walks away and shuts off the lights) Listen, I'm sorry, but
the popcorn popper crashed.
Owen: (shrugs) The tripple ripple's cool... (Barek
walks over to the table and joins Owen in front of the TV set)
Um, remember, this is my first try at serious filmmaking.
Barek: Aw, come on man, even Fleeny heads start
somewhere. (playfully flips the brim of Owen's hat down and
picks up the remote) And... action! (plays video)
On the video, Ralph and Sydney, who is dressed down
and wearing a green facial mask, are standing in the middle of
the Rutledge's cluttered attic. [Note: this clip was taken from a
previous episode.]
Ralph: [in video] Sydney,
you-- you have made your face disappear.
The camera moves over to the door of the Tool and
Die, which is open a crack. Callie and Jimmy are peeking inside,
watching the video and chuckling.
Sydney: [in video] (laughs) It's
called a midday mud musk. It's a Rutledge family beauty secret.
It's been so for centuries.
Ralph: [in video] Oh.
Owen: [in video] Too cool!
Sydney: [in video] (quickly turns around and shrieks
when she sees Owen video taping her. She runs around the attic,
looking for something to cover her face with while Owen continues
to video tape her. She finds a framed picture of herself and
holds it in front of her face.) Owen, what are you doing
here?!
The camera cuts from the shot of Sydney's picture in
Owen's video to a close-up of Sydney in the present, who is
standing by the Swan Club pool, talking to Garrett.
Sydney: (shaking
her head) I'm not worried.
Garrett: (smirking) You could have fooled me.
Sydney: As soon as you show that birth certificate to
your father, he's gonna know it's a pathetic lie.
Garrett: (turns around to face her) That's just
it. I'm not going to show it to my father. I'm gonna wait until
the concert.
Sydney: You wouldn't.
Garrett: (folds his arms across his chest) Then
I'm gonna announce the fact that you are Sandy and Sandy is you.
The press will circle like sharks and your mother's campaign will
be like bait.
Sydney: You're- you're sick.
Garrett: (laughing) Besides, your mother
accused my father of losing all the town records. Here's one that
hasn't been lost.
Sydney: How can you do this to me?
Garrett: Of course, that's if, uh...
Sydney: If what?
Garrett: If my plan to make myself indispensible to
Mila's career fails to impress my father.
Sydney: (steps up to Garrett) You're a dreamer.
(she turns around to walk away, but Garrett sharply pulls her
back and makes her face him)
Garrett: I'm your worst nightmare.
Mayor Rutledge quickly walks over to them.
Mayor: What is this? (glares at Garrett) What
is this?
Garrett: (turns toward Mayor) Mayor.
Mayor: Take your hands off my daughter.
Garrett: (smirks) Gladly. (lets go of
Sydney and walks away)
Mayor: (steps toward Sydney and places her hands on
her shoulders) Sydney...
Sydney: Mother, don't worry. It's okay.
Mayor: No, it is not okay. It's just another sign that
everything is changing... for the worst.
Sydney: Mother!
Mayor: (glances at her watch and cups Sydney's face
in her hands) Look, I have a few calls to make. Don't-don't
worry. Everything will be fine. (pats Sydney's shoulder and
walks away)
Sydney looks after her mother, confused.
The Tool and Die. Barek and Owen are still watching
the video, and Callie and Jimmy are still peeking into the shop,
watching it as well.
On the video, J.T. and Neil are standing in
front of a mailbox, chatting. Barek is watching them on screen
warily. [Note: this clip was taken from a previous episode.]
J.T.: [in video] (speaking with a mock Russian
accent) Certainly, Professor. Or, should I say,
"Vann?"
Neil: [in video] (also speaking with mock accent)
Thank you, Professor Vann.
J.T.: [in video] You're welcome, Professor
Vann.
On the video, J.T. and Neil do their "UB2B
handshake" and the camera zooms out, revealing Baldie #1
hiding in the bushes, spying on them.
Barek: (waves his hand at Owen) Hey, hey, hey.
Freeze the frame.
The screen pauses on a shot of Baldie #1's profile
with J.T. and Neil in the background. Barek studies it intently,
with a somewhat knowing look on his face. The camera moves over
to Callie and Jimmy, who are still peeking into the shop and
gaping at what they've just seen on the video. The turn away from
the shop to talk.
Jimmy: (gesturing toward the shop, speaking in a low
voice) That's the guy who followed Saja.
Callie: (also speaking in a low voice) The one
we chased out of Swans Shop.
Jimmy: Yeah, yeah, the guy with the band-aids on his
head!
Callie: He's the one after J.T. and Neil! Well, one of
the ones. (she grabs Jimmy's arm and pulls him back over to
the door to continue watching the video)
The Swan Club Pool. Saja, J.T., Neil, Glory, Sandy,
Sydney, and Mila are in the pool, playing with some inflatable
pool toys.
Saja: Come on, J.T. Give me the
ball before I come and get it from ya! (a beach ball hits him
on the head)
Sydney and Sandy are splashing J.T. with water and
hitting him with another beach ball.
J.T.: Hey, whose side are you guys on anyway? (swims
away from the girls)
Sydney, Sandy, Glory and Mila: Ours!
Nancy: (standing at the edge of the pool)
Glory, Mila! Guys against girls! (jumps in the pool)
Glory and Mila: Yeah!
The girls are all shrieking as they continue to
play with the guys in the pool. (In case you're wondering where
Garrett is, he's still fully clothed in his long sleeved shirt
and trunks, walking around the edge of the pool, looking like he
doesn't want to get wet.) Mayor Rutledge is watching the kids in
the pool sadly, brushing away a tear. Baldie #1, who is now
dressed in pool clothes and has a towel around his neck, is
watching them as well with a sinister look on his face. The
camera zooms in again on the kids laughing and having fun in the
pool. The screen freezes on this shot and then fades to black.
The words, "To be continued... Let us hear from you!"
appear on the screen as strange music plays in the background.
