Show / Character FAQ's:

Q: What is a "Buckyball" (the nickname J.T. and Neil used for each other)?

A "Buckyball" is a buckminsterfullerene, or the geometric shape of pure carbon which was founded in 1990.  At first thought to be artificial, it was used in industry and was manufactured under specific requirements of heat and pressure.   It was later discovered to occur naturally, and it was found that inside the latticework, other atoms, sometimes quite old and from sources very different from the original fullerene, could be trapped in a sort if cage.  It was obviously named after the scientist who discovered it, Buckminster Fuller, but because the shape resembled a soccer ball everyone started calling it Buckyball for short- hence J.T. and Neil's nickname!  Lots of thanks to Michele G. and Kristen V. for this info!

Q:  What exactly was "UB2B"?

It was the big science project that J.T. and Neil were working on throughout the show.  It was either a self-perpetuated rocket fuel, or a self-perpetuated rocket (meaning a rocket ship that's able to move without fuel, kind of like solar power, I guess).  Anyway, UB2B was considered to be a huge and exteremely important project, and if it was completed, J.T. and Neil would've won the Nobel Prize.

Q:  Who were those big, bald guys with the bad Russian accents?

They were the infamous "Baldies".  Basically, they were a couple of guys (agents, perhaps?) from a country called Rodavia who were tracking down the fictitious "Professor Vann" in order to get more information on UB2B.  They were most likely bad guys because they kidnapped Glory and threatened her with knives and snakes, thinking she was somehow connected to "Professor Vann".  They were also really weird, always sporting the same black outfits and they always had cotton balls stuck in their ears.  One Baldie had a habit of hitting himself on the head, and always wore a huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle band-aid.

Q:  Who was "Professor Vann"?

He was the fake identity that J.T. and Neil assumed so they would be able to order the elements needed for UB2B without any hassles for being underage.   According to J.T. and Neil, "Professor Vann" was a 30 year-old astrophysicist who graduated from Harvard.

Q:  Was Barek a good or bad guy, and what was he up to?

Barek came to town as the new manager of the Tool and Die (the local motorcycle garage).  However, it was pretty obvious that he was doing something else on the side.  He was frequently found spying on all the teenagers in town, had a jeweler's eye-piece which he secretly used to study rocks and minerals with, and was often carrying around bag of cotton balls (like the ones the Baldies had in their ears).   Barek was probably working with the Baldies because of the cotton balls, and because he had a mini-walkie talkie that he used to communicate to one of the Baldies with.  But it was also hinted at that Barek might've been working for the government as an undercover agent.  Whoever he was working for, he was obviously trying to get more information on UB2B.  I don't really know whether Barek was a good or bad guy, but if I had to pick one or the other, I'd probably say he was a bad guy.  He was just so creepy, the way he followed everyone around. Also, he tried to hurt Callie by rigging the ladder that she fell off of.  Plus, he probably worked with the Baldies and we knew they were bad because they kidnapped Glory. But then again, Barek might've just been some sort of undercover agent who was trying to protect J.T. and Neil from the Baldies.  He might've just pretended to be working with the them in order to get more info on UB2B. I think this is probably what the writers had in mind.  I don't know... to this day, the story behind Barek's true identity still confuses me!

Q:  Were Sydney and Sandy really switched at birth?

No.  Garrett switched their birth records himself to get back at Sydney.  I guess there's a possibility they could've been switched at birth, but the birth record Garrett was blackmailing Sydney with on the show was fake.

Q:  Is Swans Crossing airing anywhere currently?

Yes, right now it's airing on a cable/satellite network in the UK called "Trouble" every weekday at 2pm. It's also airing in the Philippines and on the Children's Channel in Norway. Thanks to Paul J., Sansan, and Anne for this info.

Q:  Do you know where I can get the Swans episodes on tape?

Unfortunately, the series has never been released on video, and I don't know of anyone specifically who has all the episodes on tape and is willing to make copies for people.  However, I did set up a Swans Crossing tape trading ring on the Goodies page, so check that out.   You might want to try mailing an episode request to Sachs Family Entertainment (they distributed Swans) or USA Networks (they aired Swans about 3 years ago) at the following addresses:

Sachs Family Entertainment
12301 Wilshire Blvd.
Suite 611
Los Angeles, CA 90025

USA Networks
1230 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10020

Q:  Is a soundtrack for the show available?

Unfortunately, no.  However, some of the other Swans pages online do have sound clips of the songs featured on the show. You can find them in the Links section.

Q:  Do you know where I can buy the dolls?

They're sometimes auctioned off at eBay... just do a search for "Swans Crossing" there, and hurry up and make your bid because they're going fast!

Q:  Is there a Swans Crossing fan club I can join?

Yes, finally! It's an online fan club, started up in January 2000 by Putu (thanks Putu!). To check it out, click here! There's also a Swans Crossing eGroup you can join here!

Cast FAQ's:

Q:  Do you know of any way I can contact the cast members?

No, I don't know any of the cast members personally, so I don't have things like their email, address, or phone number (and even if I did, I wouldn't give them out).  However, I think that Lawless provides a service on his Sarah Michelle Gellar Fan Page in which you can send Sarah Gellar (Sydney) fan mail through him.  You can also write to Sarah at this address:

Sarah Michelle Gellar
c/o Buffy the Vampire Slayer
c/o The Warner Brothers Television Network
4000 Warner Blvd.
Burbank, CA 91522

Q:  Isn't Brittany Daniel (Mila) one of the Sweet Valley High twins?

Yes, she is. She played Jessica Wakefield, the wilder twin. (She was also a Doublemint gum twin!) Unfortunately, SVH was cancelled in 1998 so she can no longer be seen in this role. But as always, I'll keep you posted if Brittany or any of the other cast members manage to land other TV/movie roles.

Q:  Wasn't Shane McDermott (Garrett) on All My Children awhile ago?

Yes, he was the original Scott Chandler (Stuart's adopted son by Cindy), and was on the show from July 1995 to 1996.  One of his very first scenes on AMC was also Sarah's final scene!  (Their characters were both in the Valley Inn dining room, but they had no interaction with each other).  Shane was replaced in 1996 by actor Daniel Cosgrove because the producers wanted to make Scott older (although I honestly couldn't tell the difference). The character of Scott, who returned to AMC in 1999, is currently being played by actor Forbes March.

Site / Miss Swan FAQ's:

Q:  Why are you maintaining a site for a show that hasn't been on in so many years?

I always felt that Swans Crossing was an extremely well-written, original show that was truly ahead of it's time and was cancelled very prematurely and unfairly.  I wanted Swans to receive some long overdue recognition (plus, so many people were asking if anyone had any info on the show) and I enjoy working on a web page.  It's also fun to finally be able to talk about Swans after so long and try to get answers from others on storylines/characters that I had always been wondering about, and reading all the fan fiction written about the show is great.

Q:  How long has this site been up?

Since August 25, 1996.  This was the very first Swans Crossing site, but within a year, 7 other sites have popped up!  This proves how popular and loved the show really was.  It also disproves the assumption that no one remembers the show anymore.  Obviously, many still do. :)

Q:  Why are you trying to get the show back on the air?   You know that's impossible, right?

Well, I don't think it's impossible, but I do admit that it's a long shot.  Most of the cast members seem very reluctant or are just plain unwilling to come back and do a finale or some type of sequel for the show, which is what I had initially been pulling for.  Because of their negativity, I've pretty much given up on the idea of having a finale/sequel produced.  However, I am still pulling for the original series to be re-broadcast in the US.  You can help make this happen by visiting my Bring Swans Back section.

Q:  How often do you update this site?

I don't have a set time that I update it, but I usually do it once every two or three weeks.  Most of the time I update the Fan Fiction section, since that's the most interactive one.
