                            *CHARACTER SKETCHES*
        _____________________________________________________________

*MILA ROSNOVSKY*

A Tot Goddess. Would be on any teen list of best dressed.

She was a regular on a TV show that ran for most of her childhood - until
she got too old for the part and was dropped flat.

When she moves with her mother back to the Cavendish estate, she brings her
fabled doll house which she began as a child, along with her equally fabled
wardrobe.

As last in line of Cavendishes, Mila is treated in much the same way as her
mother's caged, rare parrot. All for show. Mila wants to step, rather than
break out of her gilded cage.

Once out of the cage, will she fly?

*SYDNEY RUTLEDGE*

The self-designated social leader of her set. Founder of the "Winner's
Circle." The dark beauty whose eyes miss nothing. Sydney is a champion horse
rider and rides her friends much the same way she spurs on her horse, Sugar.
Rich and pampered, she is used to ruling the roost.

Hers is a fantasy life, darkened only by her ambitions to be first -- no
matter the cost.

When Mila arrives, Sydney realizes it's going to cost her plenty.

Will she trade love for power?

*GARRETT BOOTH*

Bright, hot-looking, confident, athletic... trouble -- a real antagonist.
His father took the family money, parlayed it into a mega-fortune in the
eighties, and is hoping it won't topple down on him as the economic
realities of the nineties set in. It's so potentially serious that Garrett
has to come home from his school in Switzerland.

Garrett, full of resentment, does what he does best: makes trouble.

Will he ever get crushed playing two ends against the middle?

*GLORY BOOTH*

Sister to Garrett. Amiable, petite, appealing, with no real edges.
Strawberry blonde with a smattering of freckles -- your basic nice girl --
just the opposite of her brother. She has a giant blind spot when it comes
to him. The more he manipulates her; the more she defends him.

Still, everyone likes her and she has something good to say about everyone
else -- especially J.T. She could move from one social group to another if
the other members of the "Winners Circle" would let her.

To have a life of her own, what will she have to pay?

*J.T. ADAMS*

A self-proclaimed explorer of machines and people. In a few years his looks
will catch up with his wonderful sense of humor. He and Neil Atwater have
been best friends since they were three.

In matters of the head, J.T. is Neil's compadre in scientific ventures. In
matters of the heart, he is companion to Glory in romantic ones.

J.T.'s real battle is between hormones and brainwaves.

*NEIL ATWATER*

Brilliant, funny, plump, with the cool of someone who doesn't have to prove
anything to others. His is the richest African-American family in the
country and accepted members of the Swans Crossing community. But Neil
doesn't really care about the family's international cosmetic business,
except for the fact that he has access to their laboratories.

He'll do anything to get the raw materials for his science and space
projects. Invention is his forte, science is his passion.

Hot water is definitely his element.

*JIMMY CLAYTON*

A wild one, but not evil. A reckless loner who could lead the pack. An
athlete who hates teams. A friend of Garrett, though he knows Garrett is no
friend to anyone. Jimmy is a mysterious mix of contradictions.

He hates the role of "rich kid" and refused to play it. His passions are for
things he can do by himself. He's a video game legend and a mini-bike
expert. Most of the time he hangs out at the local motorcycle garage instead
of the country club.

Though girls fall all over him and boys look up to him, he's untamable, a
maverick.

The new, quiet girl will be his Waterloo.

*CALLIE WALKER*

The new, quiet girl. She has a certain mystique, but is not conventionally
pretty. Though she could afford the clothes that Mila and Sydney have, she
chooses simplicity. But that simplicity gives her a compelling style.

She, too, is a maverick.

Callie is a self-invention who rides a mini-bike and knows how to take apart
a motor as easily as she can finesse a french braid in her hair.

*SANDY SWAN*

Has the potential to go from dowdy to Madonna. One of Sydney's satellites,
and tolerated by the "Circle," this plain, somewhat plump girl is a
naturally-talented singer, but just lacks confidence.

Long ago, her family founded the town, but now, like Sandy herself, they are
overlooked by the premiere social set.

Can this duckling turn into a swan?

*NANCY ROBBINS*

A real I-wanna-be. She's a classic example that money doesn't buy happiness.
Her main hope is that Sydney will accept her. Of course, knowing that,
Sydney makes her life miserable by misusing and often, making her into her
henchperson.

From a family with money, but no social standing, she's willing to do
anything for Sydney's approval.

She's a candle ready to burn.

*"SAJA" DECASTRO*

He's about as American as a Big Mac even though he's of Asian descent.
Recently he's been on a search for his ethnic identity. He's changed his
name to "Saja", meaning "Lord of the Warriors" in Korean, and has taken on
all things Eastern -- particularly the martial arts. Every week brings about
a new phase in him... and a new costume, depending on what book he's just
read.

Both Jimmy and Garrett are fascinated and amused by him and half-believe
Saja, who says he has "powers" inherited from his sacred mountain ancestors.

Callie accepts him for who he is and is not.

*OWEN FOWLER*

A true wall walker. Minuscule, funny-looking, the only thing that seems to
connect him to his earth is his music. He can make up a song about anything
and does licks on a guitar like no one twice his age. In class, he's
constantly humming, rapping, and moving to the beat of his own sound system.

When Mila arrives, he loses his heart and objectivity.

Little Owen takes on the role of serf and Svengali.
