Well, race fans, we have decided to turn our Sound Off! page over to you. This will be your forum and we encourage you to submit your opinions to us. Don't be bashful.

We are happy to hear again from our newest correspondents, Lolita & Louella - they have contributed several fine columns.

Hi Race Views readers:

Lolita and Louella reporting back from the land of frozen tundra, howling winds, and race temperatures hovering around 45 degrees. Lolita and I were among the 140,000 plus fans who filled Las Vegas to the bursting point for last weekend's race.

Right off the get-go Bruton Smith (infamous owner of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway) let us down. Dropped us in the grease, as it were. We can only imagine he did not receive the message that two of his major stockholders (one share, and two shares) would be in town for the race festivities.

There was no waiting limo. We did spot a cab outside, and I mentioned to Lolita that it looked like a B.S. cab. For some reason the driver took offense at the remark. Asking to be taken to a B.S. hotel only seemed to aggravate him more. Some people wear their turbans too tight.

As if that wasn't enough, our seats were on the wrong side of the track, in the cheap $100.00 section. The place usually reserved for B.S.'s poor relatives and writers from Nascar Online.

B.S. made a killing Sunday. Jacket and sweatshirt sales were brisk.. When B.S. ran out of the high-priced stuff, fans were taking bids on their own "best Target has to offer" type jackets, $60.00 and up. Luckily Lolita and I each brought two layers of tank tops and shorts. No fools are we.

Beer vendors were crying in their own beer. Nobody bought any. Coffee was the order of the day. To B.S.'s credit, there were plenty of bathroom facilities, (about the only place to keep warm) and traffic control was generally good.

Missing in action were the complimentary crackers and little wienies. Sandwiches were $7.00, a bag of popcorn $3.00, and drinks were out of sight. We wound up sharing a bag of peanuts left over from our in-flight "snack".

Fords, as usual, had their way with the rest of the field. Their superiority is even more evident when the race is viewed from the track, rather than on TV. It was fun seeing little "E" lead for a bit, but his Chevy was no match for the Fords of Jeff Burton and Mark Martin. Had the race not been rain shortened, and barring accidents, the outcome would have been the same. Nevertheless, Jeff Burton seemed to be a popular winner. Good finishes by Elliott, Martin, Jarrett, Earnhardt Jr. and Sr. were also welcome.

Once again Jeff Gordon and his fans came away frustrated. However, the season is young, so we will not pass the collection plate, or hold a bake sale for him just yet. One final observance from Vegas. Why do we take Jeff Gordon fans so lightly, and step aside for someone in Earnhardt Sr. garb????? Hummmmmmmmm???

L & L

Sounds like L&L might be back soon. But first I have to find out what a frozen tundra is. Probably has chocolate on it.
