"Concerning Provisionals"

Well, race fans, we have decided to turn our Sound Off! page over to you. This will be your forum and we encourage you to submit your opinions to us. Don't be bashful. Tom is responding about a recent editorial in which we said the provisional starting positions were being abused.

I agree. Provisionals are abused and abusive. The "field fillers" are relegated to orphan status by NASCAR. They have no standing. They have no priviledges that the top 25 in points have. Under the current system they are handicapped by the fact that the provisional places will be used by teams in the top 25 in points. The royalty does not even worry about qualifying if they do not place in the top 25 in the first round of qualifying. They go about business as though they had and work on their race setup, while the peeons (I know the spelling is wrong, but that's what happens, they get peed on) search for more speed for the second round. If they make the field, they have precious little time to work on a race setup further handicapping them and making it less likely that they will ever work their way into the "Royal Class" of priviledge. Equal playing field? Ha! All teams do not have equal chances under the current system. All teams are not equal, but how about some affirmative action for those who are discriminated against by the pompous czars of NASCAR? Thanks for letting me vent. Sincerely, Tom Liggin
