![]() The Morris Eight of 1934-1948The Morris Eight was developed in response to failing sales and lack of innovation, and more or less saved the company. The car itself was not overly innovative in style, being roundly based on the competing Ford Model Y (Morris Motor Company had bought, dissected and studied a Model Y), but included more sophisticated running gear, including hydraulic brakes. The engine from the Model Eight was a close copy of that from the Ford Model Y and remained essentially unchanged when it was later appropriated for use in the new Morris Minor - the only existing component in an otherwise all new car.
