| Western 48, Windsor 10
When the last game of the regular season is meaningless in terms of playoff positioning, most fans worry that the boys on the field will be looking past this week's game and onto the next. For the Mustangs, this was only partly the case. The regular season ended much as everyone expected with the Mustangs soundly trouncing an inept Windsor Lancers squad. At times, however, they seemed to be elsewhere.
(The story was different for two other playoff bound teams. The McMaster Marauders, who'll take on Western next week, took it on the chin at the hands of Guelph to the tune of 47-24. And Laurier, who'll face Waterloo, was beat by York 13-6.)
Western's offence totalled up 570 yards in total offence. Scott Crawley ran 22 times for 172 yards. Fabian Rayne scored four times totalling 15 on the season.
Notes
- Western was the CIAU's only undefeated team through the regular season this year.
- This was Western's fourth undefeated regular season in the past 8 years.
- In terms of weather, this must have been the best season the OUA has had in decades.
- The media is building up the Western-Mac playoff match as a titanic struggle. But the facts are these: Mac hasn't been in the playoffs for 12 years. Mac had only four wins on the season. Mac gave up a ton of points defensively. And Mac was badly beaten by a poor Guelph team on the last game of the season. It's true that this game may be a classic, but it may also be a blow-out.
- The mustangfootball.com player of the game is Scott Crawley, who became only the third Mustang to rush for more than 1000 yards in a season. Tim Tindale had 1208 in 1991 and Sean Reade ran for 1062 in 1995. Crawley's total this year was 1026.
