Carleton Cancels CIAU Football Program
After 53 years, Carleton will no longer compete in the CIAU football program citing a lack of resources. Last year their football budget was $155,000 funded mostly through student fees. Carleton stated that the budget should have been closer $210,000. About 67 percent of students voted against an $11.30 increase in annual student fees that would have saved the program. [Ed. Comment - Clearly this was a vote against football and athletics since the fee amounts to no more than a small pizza with three toppings on a Friday night!]
Carleton's best season was in 1985 when they lost the Churchill bowl to Calgary. They last made the playoffs in 1995 and had 1-7 records in both of their past two seasons.
