Oh My Gawd!!!...The Flaming Lips
(This page is dedicated to the memory of Orville Reddenbaucher and Andre the Giant.)
They came from the 80s with a smirking smile and catchy guitars. Their first release was Blow Job, a one-sided cassette single that was given away at concerts in 1984. Then came their self-titled
EP in '85. This featured:
Wayne Coyne- GUITAR
Mark Coyne- VOCALS
Richard English- DRUMS
Michael Ivins-BASS
Soon after The Flaming Lips was released, Mark left the group- leaving brother Wayne as frontman. It was in 1986 when the first Lips album was released. Hear It Is was a fresh beginning for the new, three-piece line-up. From that point on, their albums became more and more powerful. Each new song was more complex and enticing than the one before it. However, it wasn't until 1990, when they released In a Priest Driven Ambulance, that the Lips had a beautiful, noisy, psychedelic masterpiece under their belts.
After Priest, the Lips moved on up to Warner Bros., but they still stayed true to their crazy musical ideas. Hit to Death in the Future Head, Transmissions From the Satellite Heart, and Clouds Taste Metallic are, in my opinion, the greatest albums of all time.
Even more Flaming Lips propaganda.
