Banks Peninsula Obscurities
Purau Beach Crag
A tiny crag with a few tiny climbs. The most obvious is *Pastoral Frenzy (17). A
potential site of a swim/climb biathalon? Map Ref: N36 901311.
Pigeon Bay
Three small crags exist here. Lion Rock (Pettigrews Road), near Starvation
Valley Road, and at the head of Holmes Bay. 10-12 routes have been done by
local resident Al Hay, who tells us he would not spurn polite approaches.
Camp Bay
Another Joe Arts/Lindsay project crag, hopefully more info soon.
Seastacks And Coastal Traverses
Aaaaaagh me hearties! High adventure and fancy ropetricks lurk on the
stacks of Pompeys Pillar (N37 163059), Okains Bay Pillar (2 routes), and
Boaz (Tumbledo wn Bay, N36 913052). Boaz received its first ascent by
Steve Elder in 1988, withh Murray Cullen being kind enough to do the swim.
And for any climber worth his/her salt, the sea-level traverse from Sumner
to Taylor's Mistake will littorally get you going.
