Notes for Moses FOSTER
1870 census lists an Eliza Foster (34). Could this be the widow of one
of Moses' sons? Or, is this the same person as Elijah S.(25) in the
1860 Census. And is this the same person as Sarah (13) in the 1850
Census. Need to research this further.
Family legend has it that Moses had five sons killed in the Civil War.
We know certainly only of Joseph's death. But, a B.H. Foster was killed
at Petersburg from the 27th SCVI, Company B. Also, we know that Moses
sons William, Luther and Joseph served in the Palmetto Sharpshooters.
Thomas J. (James?)served in Palmetto Sharpshooters and was killed at
Frazier's Farm. There was a J.J. Foster (Judson J.?) who died of disease
while serving in the 27th Regiment S.C.V., company K. We know that
William was wounded at Wildernss. Maybe it was four died and one
wounded. Hope to find out for sure.
