(On Conservatism)
Sure, people are a lot more conservative these days and the reason for that simply is,too many people have gotten too close to the flame and been burned. I don't look at the way people are more conservative about sex, drugs, whatever comes out of experience. It's no longer that we're afraid to offend our parents, it has more to do with the fact that we want to live. I've got no problems with the new drunk driving laws - they keep more people alive, simple fact. People aren't having sex less these days because the Pope is against it, it's because of AIDS and the fact that sex can kill. On the whole, the world is starting to see that the advances that were made by the real revolutionary scientists during the 50's can kill you. Yeah, even the littlest bit of X-ray can give you cancer and you can't make all the plastic you want without ending up with severely poisoned oceans. Is the temptation to get f*cked up still there? Sure, that's part of what makes me up but I just don't do it any more. I'm still a drug addict. The urges are still there and nothing's changed all that much. Right now, my feet are totally black and blue from smashing up a dressing room the other night. -
