The East Coast snowstorm last week disrupted more than travel. A Geffen Records press release issued last Tuesday announced that Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry had bought the Harvard Lampoon. Supposedly, the ax slinger planned to convert the castlelike quarters of the comedy petrie dish into a "combination second home/recording studio." The fishy release, it turns out, was meant to be the setup for a vastly funny joke, but the punch line never came. Perry was to be honored by the mag last Friday, and giddy Geffen staffers thought it would be a hoot if it appeared he had bought the Lampoon to garner the award, but the snow forced Perry to cancel, thrashing the gag's payoff.
