SNL - 1990

(About outside songwriters)
It's not like we're just picking up a bunch of songs that somebody else has written, we're writing the songs ourselves with an extra body or two in the room, and an extra set of suggestions. Sometimes they're there to develop ideas we're already working on, or sometimes they'll originate things by throwing a riff or something at us to start the song. Sometimes we can be half-way there on something but stuck, and an outside writer may come in and just say "Why not try this?" and it's all done - all it takes sometimes is just one suggestion. - Hot Metal, 4/93
