INTERNET MID-TERM PROJECT

Film Location Portfolio

SCENARIO:

You are the Producer for a small film studio; scouting for a new modern production of Shakespeare's As You Like It that will be set in various locations around the island of Oahu in Hawaii.

You have 125 people in your entourage, from film crew to stars, you will need to find appropriate accommodations for these people. You would like to stay within your budget, so you decide to have everyone stay at the same hotel. Your budget includes: food, lodging, local travel and entertainment. The film studio is helping with the film expense. Daily travel with such a large crew is costly, so you decide to find the most perfect film locations available near your hotel to keep expenses at bay. You best figure on having at least 125 rooms so no one has to double-up, but if all else fails, you might be able to convince several members of the crew to share a room.

You expect to be in Oahu for two weeks (14 days), and not during the expensive tourist season. The film studio has arranged for flight transportation, your budget is handling the rest. Be sure to see that you provide outside activities for the crew, because you are not filming Mutiny on the Bounty! Since this is your money you are spending, it seems wise to cut as many frivolous expenses as possible, yet make the best film you know how. The most you expect to spend is $1,000,000, but of course, less is better! How much will it cost? Are you over or under budget?

Before you go to Hawaii to check out the locations, you've decided to do some preliminary scouting on the World Wide Web. As you find locations, you will transfer them to a document in Microsoft Word along with a map of Oahu showing the locations you've selected and information about hotel accommodations for the cast and crew.

All three (3) Word templates have been set-up for you to save time, all you need to do is find the right sights and paste them into the proper place on the templates. Sometimes you will have to edit text for content to fit on one printed page. Note: Each finished template should fit on one page, for a total of (3) pages (4 max.) turned in for grading.

Make sure that your name and date is firmly planted on the upper right side of the paper before turning in.

Start Netscape Navigator and begin your search for the correct URL's to complete the project.

Take note of the URL finally selected because there will be a spot on the template for you to key-in some of the URL addresses.

When you wish to copy a picture to the template be sure to: Right Mouse Button Click and choose: Save Image As… and copy to your floppy disk first.

When you have all the pictures and data necessary to complete the project, re-choose Microsoft Word from the taskbar at the bottom of your screen (remember, you opened it first), click on the table cell in which you wish to paste the picture, and…

Go to the Insert menu, choose Picture…

Go to your folder and select the GIF or JPEG picture you copied from the web that fits the needed description. (If for some reason the picture you copied from the WEB needs to be associated with something, choose the JPEG Filter, and all will go easy for you.)

It is suggested that you complete the templates in order, it will give you the practice needed to complete the third template.

At excite.com, you will need to use City.Net to get the map of Oahu. Use their Yellow Pages to get the Hilton Hotel information to complete the final page. (Hint: use hilton.com/ in your search.) Although you can use any Oahu site for your film, look into Turtle Bay if you are having trouble locating the right spot.
