Please examine the draft for the final take-home exam, below. We will examine the draft in class on Thursday, April 13. I anticipate orienting our remaining class time together to an active response to the questions posed below.
The final exam will be assigned here, to be tendered on May 15. Your response to the questions posed below will count as 25% of the quantitative calculation of your final grade for EEE.
The second half of EEE began with a discussion of Neo-Liberalism and the corporate domination of globalization, then moved to examine a variety of paths to world sustainability, including Lester Brown's book defining eco-economic policies for sustainability.
Please compose an essay that defines what you consider a comprehensive and feasible path toward world sustainability that will influence the future of your children. Specifically identify activities and policies that could support sustainability, showing a recognition of constraints and obstacles that must be overcome.
Your essay should demonstrate a working grasp of the principles of ecological economics and sustainability in general. Your time horizon should be at least a generation. Your answer should extend to the Earth, not just the USA. You should include your consideration of your place and role in making the future that you envision.
Your essay should persuade me that you have grasped the reading and the class discussion, that you have thoughtfully digested this material, and that you can demonstrate a personal understanding of the overriding concern for sustainability upon which this course rests. I anticipate a response of about 8 pages, double-spaced at 10 point font, but I allow for longer essays. Your response will be graded for depth and content.
There are no set answers. I look forward to responding to your thoughtful grappling with the profound but open issues that define this course.
